Who can be added as a proposed director, and what information is required? #
The service requires at least three proposed directors and currently accepts no more than 12.
Each person must understand and consent to the role. A director helps govern the company and has legal duties. Do not add a person only to reach the minimum number.
What information is required? #
Enter each person’s legal details exactly as shown on the identity document or passport. The application collects the information needed for the supported company-registration process.
A South African citizen must use the 13-digit South African identity number. A foreign national must use the passport number exactly as shown in a valid passport.
Every proposed director must also provide a correctly certified copy of the applicable identity document.
Who should not be added without checking? #
Do not add a person who:
- has not agreed to serve;
- does not understand that this is a company-law role;
- is legally disqualified or ineligible to serve;
- has supplied information that cannot be verified; or
- is being used as a nominee while someone else intends to control the decisions secretly.
The Companies Act contains eligibility and disqualification rules. If there is any doubt about insolvency, a court order, prior misconduct, legal capacity or another restriction, obtain professional advice before submission.
Do religious titles decide who the directors are? #
No. A pastor, elder or founder may also be a director, but the religious title does not automatically create the legal office. Choose a board that can act responsibly and continue governing the NPC.
